Dana Gibbs: What To Wear When Meeting The Family

So your boyfriend or girlfriend has invited you to meet his or her parents. How exciting!

However, the thought of it might be causing you to work up a sweat. “Should I bring flowers? Wine? Should I shake their hands or just awkwardly wave hello?”

And then comes an even bigger question: “What the heck do I wear?!”

Don’t worry about that one. I’ve got you covered.

No need to thank me.

Here are six outfits, three female and three male, that you can use as a guide to figure out what you should wear when you go meet your SO’s family.

For the ladies:

If you love floral, you will love this look’s main piece, a beige mini skirt with scattered floral patterns. Top off the look with a sweater, heels, statement necklace and wristlet bag and you’re good to go!

Skirt: H&M, $29.95

Sweater: Alloy Apparel, $12.90

Tank top: Uniform Difference, $14.99

Necklace: Herberger’s, $18

Shoes: H&M, $39.95

Bag: AliExpress, $15.81

Time to break out that red lipstick! Jazz up a striped sweater with a pair of red pants, black hat, leather jacket, black and white bag and a few accessories.

Jacket: Rose Wholesale, $17.79

Sweater: Forever 21, $22.90

Pants: Belk, $24.99

Bag: Rakuten, $19.89

Shoes: Shiekh, $16.97

Hat: AliExpress, $10.60

Necklace: Macy’s, $36

Ring: Eve’s Addiction, $22.40

Lipstick: beauty.com, $9.99

I’d highly recommend this look if you’re going to church with your significant other’s parents. The navy blue dress has a beige collar, giving the outfit a polished look. Throw on a pair of beige heels along with a few accessories and you’ll be looking like a million bucks!

Bag: Forever 21, $10.90

Hair Bow: Etsy, $4.99

Bracelet: Palm Beach Jewelry, $27.98

Earrings: Younkers, $25

Watch: Overstock, $25.49

For the gentelmen:

The bright blue sweater gives what would be a bland, colorless outfit a bit of flavor. And don’t forget your watch, because  you don’t want to be late to family dinner!

Sweater: Yes Style, $16.32

Shirt: Boscov’s, $19.99

Pants: H&M, $19.95

Shoes: Target, $29.99

Socks: Sierra Trading Post, $8.21

Watch: Target, $19.99
Belt: Target, $14.99

Plaid is the boundary between formal wear and business casual. You just can’t go wrong with plaid, or those sneakers for that matter!

Shirt: Boscov’s, $16.99

Jacket: Hollister, $47.97

Pants: Nordstrom, $29.90

Shoes: 6pm, $31.99

Watch: Bang Good, $22.93

Belt: Krisar, $17.95

Put the “suave” in Rico Suave with this laid back, fedora-enhanced look. Make sure to remove the shades and the hat before greeting your SO’s parents!

Sweater: Big Top Shirt Stop, $22.18

Shirt: Apparel N Bags, $18.89

Pants: Hollister, $25

Hat: Express, $27.93

Shoes: H&M, $49.95

Watch: Rose Wholesale, $4.40

Sunglasses: Express, $20.93

Putting an outfit together to meet your SO’s parents doesn't necessarily mean you have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. You might be able to find some of these pieces in your closet. Mix and match anything you see here! And remember, an outfit isn't complete without a smile, so be sure to flash those pearly whites!

I had the honor to meet makeup artist Lauren Napier for the first time at Beautypress Spotlight day. She is a very sweet person, and I love her style. she is just an awesome person overall. I had the opportunity to try her new makeup wipes called CLEANSE by Lauren Napier, and it is wonderful.

CLEANSE is all natural, cruelty free, and the perfect travel item to have in your purse or gym bag. I carry two packs per day, as an emergency cleanse after work or a casual "pick-me-up" during my hectic school days. CLEANSE did not irritate my skin at all. In fact, I noticed a slight glow after each use. I am a huge fan of these wipes. I am definitely going to purchase more!

Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin: Activation

Many thanks to my boyfriend's influence, I am a huge fan of Gundam Mobile Suits. I love collecting and building them, when I am not writing or attending blogger events. I like to relax, watch TV, and build. My kind of stress therapy. Many of my family and friends find it strange that I love to build mobile suits, but they think it is pretty cool. Even my classmates and manager think my love for gundam building is pretty cool.

My instagram is clear evidence how much of a fan I am. On valentines day, my boyfriend surprised with my first gundam kit (well, after nagging him for a while about buying one for me). GPB-04B BEARGGUY. He was absolutely adorable after I completed him. Now, I am currently working on my second gundam that is more challenging and time consuming: RX-78-2 GUNDAM- Real Grade.

Since I am passionate about Gundam Mobile Suit building, why not learn the history?! I am currently reading Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin: Activation by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko. This is book 1 of the 4 part series of Mobile Suit Gundam. This is a very good read if you are interested in Gundams, or a fan of good manga artwork.

Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin: Activation by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko

In the universal year 0079, a war broke out between a breakaway nation of earth colonists known as the Principality of Zeon, and the Earth Federation. During the war, a crew uses an experimental Mobile Suit Gundam RX-78 to navigate their way through battle, until 15 year old Amuro Ray discovers the Mobile Suit, and learns to control it.

He also discovers that his father participated in the Mobile Suit Gundam RX-78 experiments, to help the earth federation during their war efforts against the Principality of Zeon. Amuro Ray must pilot the experimental gundam to help save humanity, and earth.

PROS: I enjoyed the artwork and the story a lot. This is a traditional look, much better than your ordinary mangas.

CONS: I did not experience any cons

RECOMMENDATIONS: I would recommend Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin: Activation by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko to anyone who are fans of Gundam Mobile Suits, or want to learn more about Gundam Mobile Suits

RATING: 5 out of 5

This is definitely a great manga to read. This is not your ordinary manga, which I love. You can pick up this manga at midtown comics, forbidden planet, or any local comic and book store. SPAdet Skincare

DISCLAIMER: The following products is based on my own experiences and opinions. I was not paid or sponsored to write this review. The following Products were given to me by Annabelle from SPAdet for review purposes. Thank you!

I had the absolute honor of meeting Annabelle from SPAdet for the first time, at the Beautypress Spotlight event. I was moved by her story of creating a natural skincare line to help her son with eczema. We clicked right away as soon as I mentioned to her that I was born with eczema, and I am always dealing with annoying dry skin.

Annabelle was so kind to send me e-FACE exfoliator, Hair & Body Wash, Nutrient-Rich Spray, and Hand & Body Lotion. All of her SPAdet skincare products are made with all natural ingredients and oils, to ensure the longevity of the products, as well as effectively moisturize my skin. Most brands believe adding water to their products, to maximize "moisture" levels. But, what they fail to realize is water can quickly dilute products. Making it difficult for consumers to enjoy the benefits.

Overall, I did enjoy her skincare products. They worked well, very effective, and I love the spa quality.

SPAdet e-FACE Exfoliator

PROS: I love the foaming factor, interesting feature to an exfoliate treatment. I noticed that my skin feels softer.

CONS: I did not experience any cons or negative side effects

RECOMMENDATIONS: I would recommend SPAdet e-FACE exfoliator to everyone with all skin types. It is safe to use once to twice a week.

RATING: 5 out of 5

SPAdet Nutrient-Rich Facial Spray

PROS: Travel-friendly, and compact for a quick skin refresher

CONS: I did not experience any cons or negative side effects

RECOMMENDATIONS: I would recommend SPAdet Nutrient-Rich Facial Spray to everyone with all skin types. Great for a daily skin refresher and toner.

SPAdet Hair & Body Wash

PROS: Cleansed and Moisturized my skin very well

CONS: Dried out my hair a little bit after each use

RECOMMENDATIONS: I would recommend SPAdet Hair & Body Wash to anyone with all skin types, and anyone with oily hair.

RATING: 4 out of 5

SPAdet Hand & Body Lotion

PROS: Very moisturizing, my skin feels great after each use! I also noticed an improvement in my skin texture.

CONS: I did not experience any cons or negative side effects

RECOMMENDATIONS: I would recommend SPAdet Hand & Body Lotion to anyone with dry to sensitive skin. It will help heal and soothe your skin, as well as improve your skin's texture.

RATING: 5 out of 5

I enjoyed SPAdet skincare products. I truly believe Annabelle did a great job! Thank you again. Visit her website at  http://spadet.com/. Have you tried SPAdet? leave your thoughts in the comments section below. Thank you for reading. Be Beautiful & Geeky :)

Emily Dick: The importance of a good skincare routine

The importance of a good skincare routine

By Emily Dick of whyhellobeauty.com

Quality skincare and lovingly after your skin will ensure you have healthy skin for life. I believe that to have a flawless makeup finish, you need to start with a fresh, clean canvas.

I have tried so many ranges of skincare and I believe the base of great skin starts with a cleanser. Foaming cleansers are good for those with oily skin but try to avoid cleansers that dry out your skin and leave it feeling tight. My pick is the Arbonne re9 Cleanser which is great for removing makeup, cleaning thoroughly without removing all your precious facial oils that are needed to balance your skin out.

Always ensure your toner doesn't have alcohol as an ingredients as alcohol dries out the skins ph level and strips the natural oils which can leave your skin tight and itchy. Facial mists can be quite nice and leave a pleasant lingering scent. Try Avene's Thermal Spring Water for an unscented facial spray which can also double as a makeup setting spray!

A moisturiser is a key step in skincare and a very friendly reminder to always use SPF. If you don't like to use a moisturiser with SPF included, use a separate sunscreen underneath. The sun is so damaging to our skin and is the cause of so many wrinkles, sunspots and not to mention the dangers of skin cancer. My mum had skin cancer a few years back and luckily recovered fully but I now preach to everyone to please look after their skin, you only have one body! SPF 30+ is best but 15+ is sufficent, especially when your makeup has SPF as well.

Night creams are a luscious indulgence and renew the skin overnight, especially when combined with a mask or scrub a few times a week. A facial oil in place of night cream can work for those with drier skin or who are looking for a switch up. Josie Maran has a great facial oil which I have purchased from Sephora in the past and is reasonably priced.

Hot water in your shower or bath can deplete your skin of moisture so always try to keep the temperature luke-warm and moisturise after jumping out to replace that softness. I have tried the Nivea In Shower Body Moistuiser and that is great for those who are time-poor, plus it really does work!

Hair tip: always try to finish your shower with a cold blast of water which will close the hair cuticle that you have just opened and moisturised. It will provide a smoother, glossier shine that you will love!
